For Papuan women, nurturing seeds is part of a long journey of healing wounds. This was experienced by Mama Awin Keti. She is a survivor of the 1998 Biak Massacre. The painful experience she endured is expressed through the practice of planting food crops, such as upland rice seeds and millet. I wish to commend the Indonesia's Nature Resources Conservation Agency,(BKSDA) Papua for their swift action in following up on the discovery of live endemic wildlife trade in several areas of Papua. In the latest operation, officers discovered more than 60 live birds intended for sale, as well as 54 others that had been killed, preserved, and made into decorative crowns from Birds of Paradise feathers.
